The Lutheran Church and the Lokhorst Church

Just north of the Hooglandsekerk on a canal that was filled in as early as 1608, the Lutheran church dates from 1618, enlarged in 1661. Presently being restored, its 17th-century furniture includes an organ built in 1672, expanded and rebuilt several times in the 18th century and later. Much of the baroque case was retained when a major reconstruction was carried out by the Rotterdam organ builder Andries Wolfferts in 1788. The lectern in this church takes the form of a swan, rather than the more customary eagle. The swan is a traditional reference to Martin Luther.
