The John Robinson memorial. John Robinson, minister of the Pilgrims, is one
of several Pilgrims buried in the Pieterskerk. Above the site where the
baptismal font once stood, a chandelier still hangs with a depiction of a
dove, reminding those assembled for the baptism of a baby of the story of the
baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist, when a dove descended and the words
were heard, "Thou art my beloved Sonne: in thee I am wel pleased." The
chandelier dates from ca. 1550 and is thought to have come from Lübeck in
Germany.
